Belted Galloway Cattle, were first introduced into North America in 1939 by the importation of a dozen bred heifers and a bull to Mrs. McLean of East Kortright, New York. About 10 years later Harry A Prock of Pennsylvania began importing purebred stock. The first breed association, formed July 1, 1959, the American Belted Galloway Breeders later incorporated in 1964 in Tennessee under the Name Belted Galloway Society, Inc.
In 2009, a group of breeders from Texas met at the Spring Belted Galloway Society meeting in Flagstaff AZ, with the Belted Galloway Society Inc council and the idea of a regional group now known as the Southwest Belted Galloway Association was born. Those original dedicated breeders and founders of this organization, many of whom are active today are, and always will be forever cherished for their perseverance and diligence in organizing this welcoming and close-knit group of Belted Galloway enthusiasts.
