A message from the President:
Welcome to our new Web site! I hope all of the members and guests use this site as it was intended, to promote the members of the SBGA’s Ranches and Farms and to assist in locating for interested buyers and willing sellers or anyone just interested in this great breed of cattle.
On May 1st, 2021, we had a great field day, show and annual meeting in Blanco, Texas at Ledgestone Farms. The weather wasn’t cooperative with this event but with the hard work and deduction of Bob and Sheri Riley we had one of our best outings in many years.
At the annual meeting elections were held selecting board members and officers for 2021-2022. I am very proud to have been elected to serve as the SBGA president this year. The SBGA has survived and persevered through some difficult times thanks to the efforts of some of the original founders. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize some of the people that founded, organized, and continue to keep this group going.
The first that comes to mind is the late George Adams that met with the Belted Galloway Society Inc. council in Flagstaff Arizona and together with a few others started what has become SBGA. I really believe George would be excited and proud of the hard work that a few people did to make this group what it is today.
I would be remiss to not mention some ardent leaders who have held this office before me, who brought so much leadership, insight and integrity to the organization. Dan Rohrer, Gary Marshal, Tommy Fey have all served as President since the association’s formation serving from 2013 to 2021.
I also want to recognize Sheri Riley, currently our Treasurer. Sheri is one of the kindest people I have known and I believe has absolutely taken some of the founder’s visions and used that guidance to keep the group together and moving forward in a responsible and favorable manner.
Sheri and Bob Riley have hosted two field days at their beautiful Ledgestone Farms, plus they have attended every event we’ve held since 2013. Sheri has served as our Treasurer for several years and coordinated many of our shows in Texas. She also currently serves as Vice President of the Belted Galloway society. I would highly recommend you should meet and get to know this amazing lady if given the opportunity. Thank you, Sheri, for all you have and hopefully continue to do for the SBGA.
Perhaps the most exciting news is our junior group, we had 12 juniors showing in the mud and rain at the 2021 Spring Show. What a joy it was to watch these dedicated juniors show case this breed in some of the most difficult of conditions and do it with a smile on their face and obviously having fun. I would encourage our members to actively seek out any juniors that have a passion for cattle and invite them to participate in our events. If you know of a junior that would like to attend or join us in any of our shows or county fairs, please let them know they are welcome, and we have members that will help with getting them a heifer or steer and will welcome them into this close knit and all welcoming organization.
The SBGA 2021-2022 board members are:
Any of these will gladly assist you with any needs you may have, feel free to contact them at any time.
In closing, I want to say it is my hope that the SBGA never becomes just another nonprofit group that falls into drama and conflict, where members don’t feel welcome. This regional group was formed to be a place where like-minded people who love this breed can come together and share with the rest of the members the Joy of owning Belted Galloway cattle. If you’re not a member yet, come on in, be a part of a family of some of the finest people I’ve ever known.
Sincerely,
President Dawson Masters
